Ode to the hunter
By Rick Hartle
I had somebody call
That wanted a DK.
It should not be overly tall,
They wanted it to Hunt,
And did not mind if it was the runt.
It should have a good nose
And be able to point.
But whatever they chose,
They wanted it to hunt.
They were being very blunt.
I asked him
About the color, he
Said it did not matter to them.
They just wanted it to hunt,
And gave a grunt.
I told him the parents were steady
And how they tracked.
He asked when they would be ready,
They just wanted it to hunt.
And they lived in
Virginia
near Lunt.
I told him about their chest.
We talked about the sex,
And he said whatever I thought was best.
They just wanted it to hunt,
He was brunt.
I told him about the croup
And their temperament.
He said it would be part of the group,
They just wanted it to hunt,
And that their last dog died with a shunt.
I told him about the blood tracking
And the testing and conformation.
Then we visited about backing.
They just wanted it to hunt,
And did not care for any Stunts
I told him they had a great muzzle
Along with a very noble look,
And they would like to nuzzle.
They just wanted it to hunt,
He was being up front.
I told him they had a great search
And I liked their tail set.
He said they hunted in forest of birch.
They just wanted it to hunt,
That’s all just hunt.
